Aylesbury Grazing – Dry Stock Farm Assistant

Dry Stock Farm Assistant

Aylesbury Grazing Ltd

Start date negotiable, permanent position

This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a, fully-developed 388-hectare dry stock property. As a Farm Assistant, you will work alongside a highly motivated team to manage dairy support stock, accelerate your practical skills, and maintain the property to high operational standards.

  • Location: Grange Road, Burnham (easy commute from Rolleston, Darfield, or Christchurch).
  • Stock Profile: We carry approximately 1500 R1s and R2s, 130 Jersey bulls, and 200 carryover cows.
  • Farm Infrastructure: 100% irrigated via three large centre pivots, four towable pivots, and set sprinklers.

Fast-Track Your Farming Skills: This role is specifically designed to level up your technical capabilities in two critical areas of New Zealand pastoral farming:

  • Pasture Management: Learn feed allocation and pasture management on a large, highly productive, 100% irrigated property. You will gain hands-on experience learning pasture residuals and break-fencing rotations, and maximizing pasture utilisation.
  • Advance Your Stock Handling: Build confidence and expertise in handling large numbers of young stock, bulls, and carryover cows. Work alongside experienced mentors to master stress-free stock movements, health drafting, and proactive animal welfare monitoring.

Key Responsibilities

  • Stock Management: Shifting, break-fencing, and monitoring the health and welfare of young stock and carryover cows.
  • Pasture Allocation: Assisting with feed management and general break setup.
  • Tractor & Machinery Work: Feeding out, operating tidy modern machinery, and farm maintenance.
  • General Maintenance: Fencing repairs, weed management, and keeping water and power systems functioning.

What We Are Looking For

  • An excellent attitude, honesty, and strong reliability.
  • Eagerness to learn, ask questions, and actively develop your stock and pasture skills.
  • Practical farm competency (experience with tractor driving or stock handling is highly preferred).
  • High awareness of animal welfare and environmental care.
  • A current, clean New Zealand driver’s license.
  • This will suit someone local in the area as there is no accommodation on farm.
