Linda was a founding - and enthusiastic - shareholder of the Camden Group.
Although not from a farming background, Linda completed a Degree in Agricultural Science at the then Lincoln College, after initially working as a lab technician in the soils department. As she used to say “it occurred to me one day that I was smarter than many of the students I was tutoring and I thought why don’t I have a go at getting a degree.” This she did, and her time at Lincoln spanned the attendance of both John and Leo Donkers, who she got to know well.
Following her time at Lincoln, Linda worked for MAF as a farm advisory officer, at a time when few women worked in this field. She was active in the organisation of Young Farmers Clubs and held the position of Vice President for a time. Her involvement in YFC made her contacts all over the world, which she utilised when she won an exchange trip to Europe in 1986.
On her return in 1988 she worked for the Seafood Industry Council where she became involved in writing procedural and training manuals. This sometimes involved her going out to sea on deep-sea trawlers.
Linda left the Seafood Industry to work for herself as a consultant, specialising in human resources, designing and delivering training programs, facilitation and strategic planning. Based in Wellington she was also a very active member of the Citzens Advice Bureau.
In 2004 Linda began working for Dexcel (now DairyNZ) in their Business Planning team contributing a great deal to the “Women in Dairying” programme.
As well as an active shareholder in Camden Group Linda spent several years as a Director. Her input was always useful and her focus was the people in our business. She strongly advocated for a work environment where individuals could develop and grow their skills and confidence.
Sadly, Linda passed away in July 2006.
The Linda Kilday Memorial Achievement Award has been set up by the Camden Group in memory of Linda.
This cash award is open to all staff members and is presented annually to the staff member that exhibits the same attitude, commitment and drive that Linda was so passionate about nurturing in the staff involved in our business.
