Following her time at Lincoln, Linda worked for MAF as a farm advisory officer, at a time when few women worked in this field. She was active in the organisation of Young Farmers Clubs and held the position of Vice President for a time. Her involvement in YFC made her contacts all over the world, which she utilised when she won an exchange trip to Europe in 1986.
On her return in 1988 she worked for the Seafood Industry Council where she became involved in writing procedural and training manuals. This sometimes involved her going out to sea on deep-sea trawlers.
